The Yellow River, also known as China's mother river has lost nearly a quarter of its water from the source region in the last ten years. Higher than average temperatures combined with diminishing rainfall have caused rivers and lakes to dry up. The glaciers of Anyemaqen Mountain feed water into the Yellow River but between 1966 and 2000 most of the glaciers have shrunk by around 17 percent, scientists say that the ice is melting ten times faster than in the previous three hundred years. The thawing permafrost, or frozen earth, is causing serious damage to houses, roads and grassland. The desert is rapidly overwhelming the grassland where Tibetan herdsmen traditionally raised their cattle during the summer months. The water shortages and disappearing meadows have forced many Tibetans to abandon their traditional nomadic lifestyle.15 Jun, 2005GreenpeaceDrehorte:China, Gelber Fluss (Huang He), TibetLänge:27m19sParent folder:YELLOW RIVER SOURCE CLIPREEL - CHINESE VERSIONPurpose:PublicShareKeywords:Dürren / Wüstenbildung-Erosion-Gletscherschmelze-Tierwelt (Tiere)-WüstenBearbeitung:GeklammertSelect usageVerwendungszweck (Gebühren werden nur bei tatsächlicher Nutzung fällig)?Nennen Sie eine Medienkategorie für Ihren Verwendungszweck.
