At the head of the beds there are signs indicating diseases such as cancer, heart attack, asthma and allergies which might occur by breathing in the extremely fine soot particles. The Mercedes star is fixed to the foot of each bed. More activists hold banners reading 'Dieselruß macht Krebs, Mercedes Benz macht mit!' ('Diesel soot causes cancer - Mercedes Benz is contributing to it!')German diesel cars release 9000 tons of soot every year. According to the Umwelt- und Prognoseinstitut Heidelberg (UPI / Institute for Environment and Prognosis) diesel soot causes approximately 8500 deaths through lung cancer every year. Although soot could have been filtered out of the exhausts of German cars for years, DaimlerChrysler, along with all other German car manufacturers, still refuses to fit their new and used diesel-fuelled cars with filters. Diesel soot filters have been incorporated in utility vehicles, like forklifts (Gabelstapler), for about ten years and in several mass-produced Citroen and Peugeot models for about two years. In September 2002 Greenpeace staged a demonstration for the first time, showing the positive effects of a diesel soot filter fitted to a used diesel-fuelled Mercedes C220 as opposed to a conventional Mercedes (News Access 02163). A comparable test proved the inexpensive filter system released only a tenthousandth of soot particles.Greenpeace thus refutes German car manufacturers' claims that it is not possible to retrofit cars already sold without a diesel soot filter. Greenpeace calls on car manufacturers to act now and fit all new and used diesel-fuelled cars with the filter technology.Statement: Dr. Christian Bussau, Greenpeace Germany climate expert6 Nov, 2002GreenpeaceDrehorte:StuttgartLänge:10m1sParent folder:DIESEL SOOT FILTER: HOSPITAL BEDS AT DAIMLERCHRYSLER - NEWS ACCESSPurpose:PublicShareKeywords:Autoindustrie-Dieselruß-Gesundheitliche Folgen-Luftverschmutzung-Polizei-vor Gebäuden / Eingängen / ZufahrtenBearbeitung:GeklammertSelect usageVerwendungszweck (Gebühren werden nur bei tatsächlicher Nutzung fällig)?Nennen Sie eine Medienkategorie für Ihren Verwendungszweck.
