For this reason the enviromentalists dressed in black gather for a funeral march. Together with a brass band playing funeral music and escorted by 10 hearses (catafalques / Leichenwagen) they march back and forth in front of the Daimler Chrysler building in Berlin-Marienfelde holding up a banner reading: 'Diesel macht Krebs - Mercedes macht mit' ('Diesel causes cancer - Mercedes joins in').German Diesel cars release 9000 tons of soot every year. As all the other German car manufacturers Daimler Chrysler still refuses to fit their new and used diesel-fuel cars with a diesel soot filter pointing to purportedly better cleaning systems which will only be available in the future. Greenpeace though has demonstrated that diesel soot could be filtered out of the exhaust easily now. Acting on Greenpeace's behalf, the German safety standards authority in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, the RW-TÜV, in September 2002 fitted a diesel soot filter on a used Mercedes C220 diesel-fuelled car. Tests on exhaust gases comparing this to a conventional Mercedes have demonstrated the effect of the cost-saving system using normal commercial parts. While the filter paper shows little trace the conventional vehicle under comparison leaves a black mark. Greenpeace thus refutes German car manufacturers' claim that it is not possible to retrofit cars already sold with a diesel soot filter. Furthermore the filter has been incorporated in several mass-produced Citroen and Peugeot models for two years and in forklift for about ten years already.Greenpeace calls on car manufacturers to act now and fit all new diesel-fuel cars and used cars with the filter technology.Statements: Günter Hubmann, Greenpeace Germany diesel soot technology expert (also added at the end of the News Access)2 Oct, 2002GreenpeaceDrehorte:BerlinLänge:5m6sParent folder:DIESEL SOOT FILTER: DAIMLER CHRYSLER FUNERAL MARCH, BERLIN - NEWS ACCESSPurpose:PublicShareKeywords:Autoindustrie-Dieselruß-Gesundheitliche Folgen-Klimaschweine-LuftverschmutzungBearbeitung:GeklammertSelect usageVerwendungszweck (Gebühren werden nur bei tatsächlicher Nutzung fällig)?Nennen Sie eine Medienkategorie für Ihren Verwendungszweck.
