The environmental organisation presents the effects of a diesel soot filter fitted to a used diesel-fuelled car as opposed to a conventional Mercedes made up as a pink porky (diesel pig) called 'Dieselschwein'. A comparable test being carried out in the presence of press people proves the cost-saving filter system releases only a tenthousandth of soot particles. While the filter paper shows little trace, the conventional vehicle leaves a black mark. Greenpeace thus refutes German car manufacturers' claims that it is not possible to retrofit cars already sold with a diesel soot filter. Additionally the German car industry still refuse to fit their newly built diesel-fuel cars with a soot filter pointing out that there will be better cleaning systems available in the future.Every year diesel soot causes several thousand deaths through lung cancer and other health problems. Experts see diesel soot as the major problem in air pollution. This is why Greenpeace is calling on car manufacturers to act now and fit all new diesel-fuel cars and used cars with the filter technology.
